The program Android Silver seems to be the big shift that Google is going to make in its strategy on smartphone production.
According to a report by The Information, Google is reportedly planning to withdraw the Nexus series devices and replace them with the Android Silver series, which will be made up of high-performance devices.
The venture appears to be bold and expensive since Google is reported to plan the dynamic promotion of new devices, both to resellers and the consumer, through intense advertising.
At the same time, the company is reportedly planning to "subsidize" manufacturers, by funding the development of the devices and at the same time taking the cost of the marketing plan.
In return, Google reportedly ensures greater control over the devices' software. In addition, it is expected to exert greater control over the software that manufacturers will offer pre-installed (bloatware), while additionally providing more reliable Android OS upgrades to Silver series devices.
The first Android Silver devices are expected to appear next year, with LG and Motorola being the first-ever makers. Other manufacturers, such as Samsung, HTC, and Sony, who have released "Google Play" versions of their devices, may follow.
In the first phase, the Android Silver program is expected to be implemented in the United States and some more "developed" markets, with in-store Android kiosks showcasing the capabilities of the Android operating system.
Finally, it should be mentioned that the reports do not mention the fate of the Nexus series of devices, and even more so, there is no answer to the question of how the gap that will be created in the mid-range devices will be filled, since the Android Silver series will be characterized as high-end.
