AV-TEST is an independent company specializing in security software testing. The company tested 25 security applications for Android for six months.
Applications were rated not only for their protection capabilities and ease of use. They were rated for additional features like battery consumption and bandwidth.
Security researchers tested applications with over 20.000 malware samples on 25 identical Android 5.1.1 Lollipop devices, each running a different security application.
Only four security applications caught an 100% in real-time threat protection: Bitdefender, ESET, Qihoo 360, and Sophos.
The good thing is that, out of all 25 security apps for Android, none went below a 95% detection rate.
In a second round of testing, however, the applications "tested" more features such as total battery leakage, CPU load, bandwidth usage, number of false positives, and the presence of additional features such as anti-theft features. secure mobile payments, application locks or even system optimization tools.
In this test, Baidu, Bitdefender, Cheetah Mobile (Clean Master), G Data, Qihoo 360, Symantec, and Trend Micro were distinguished.
