A watch worn by Apollo 15 commander Dave R. Scott in surface of the Moon sold at auction for $1.625.000.
The astronauts of Apollo were usually worn on their wrists, from a model Omega Speedmaster Professional special edition for NASA, but Scott also wore his personal Bulova Wrist Chronograph as a back-up to the Mission of 1971.
According to description of RR Auction accompanied him in the third off-road activity (meaning the walk on the surface of the Moon), as the Omega crystal he wore broke during the second Lunar Walk.
Since then, Bulova has been owned by Scott, until a few days ago, when he came out on the "hammer" with a "detailed letter of authenticity, five pages". RR Auction initially estimated it could fetch $ 1 million.
Given the final sale price, RR Auction's Bobby Livingston VP said:
"We are very pleased with the results and the price, as well as why we were able to offer a watch of historical significance - the only American-made watch worn on the surface of the Moon."
