Την εμφάνιση tweets στο timeline από λογαριασμούς που ο χρήστης δεν κάνει «follow» παραδέχτηκε ο Τρέβορ ο' Μπράιεν, μέλος της product his team Twitter, in a post on her official blog services.
As O'Brien mentions in his post about Twitter's evolution experiments, one of the goals is to continue to improve the home timeline, as "it's the best way to stay up to date with everything that's happening in your world."
"Choosing who to follow is a great first step - in many cases, the best tweets come from people you already know or know about. But there are times when you can lose tweets that we think you would like. To help you stay informed about what's going on, try ways to include these tweets on your timeline - what we think you'll find interesting or entertaining "is completed.
It is then reported that experiments have recently taken place in which different types of material appeared on the timeline, such as suggested tweets, accounts, and themes. In Britain, trials have shown that most users are happy to see tweets from accounts they may not "follow", based on indications / criteria such as activity from accounts that do follow, the popularity of tweets, and how people in a network interact with them.
"These experiments are now 'updating' the timeline you see today...as the timeline evolves, we'll continue to show you tweets that matter to you when they matter most," he concludes.
Τον Αύγουστο κάποιοι χρήστες της δημοφιλούς υπηρεσίας είχαν αντιληφθεί την εμφάνιση κάποιων «άσχετων» tweets, απλά και μόνο επειδή είχαν γίνει «favourited» από κάποιους λογαριασμούς τους οποίους όντως έκαναν follow. Αν και το νέο χαρακτηριστικό αναμένεται να φανεί χρήσιμο σε νέους χρήστες, πολλοί παλαιότεροι στον Twitter σχολίασαν αρνητικά την εν λόγω movement.
