In documents that can not be seen by the public, Apple reports precisely what the iPhone needs for even higher sales: big screen and lower price.
Internal documents were revealed during the latest trial between Apple and Samsung, which began a week ago. Apple once again sued Samsung, arguing that the Korean company copied the iPhone and violated five Apple patents.
The documents, revealed during the trial, appear to indicate that Apple is seriously considering building a larger smartphone in the style of Samsung phones. The following slides were shown at an internal Apple meeting in April 2013.
Transparency begins with the finding that iPhone sales have slowed down a lot
Why; "The greatest demand exists for the least expensive but also for smartphones with a bigger screen,” says the next slide. Samsung seems to excel because it makes cheaper and bigger smartphones.
The next slide mentions the problem: "Consumers want what we do not have."
Specifically, consumers seem to want smartphones with larger screens and lower prices. Apple, of course, has already begun moving in this direction with the iPhone 5C, and has now leaked sketches that seem to indicate that the next iPhone will actually have a larger screen.
Recall that the largest screens for iPhones it was something that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was completely opposed to. In 2010, Jobs said of his rivals' phones: "you can't hold it in your hand," and that "nobody's going to buy a phone that's that big."
