On April 4, 1975, Bill Gates and Paul Allen started a small company called Microsoft. You probably know the story from there: Bill Gates became the richest man in the world, and then gradually began to retire from his company to focus on philanthropic endeavors through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Gates, despite all his philanthropic endeavors, seems to have never been away from Microsoft. Last year when Satya Nadella took over as CEO of the company, Gates said he could play a bigger role in the company.
Bill Gates, for the 40th anniversary of Microsoft sent the following letter to them employees the company's. Bill Gates' letter was published on Twitter by Amit Choudhary and sources confirmed in TheVerge its authenticity.
Tomorrow is a special day: 40's Microsoft anniversary.
Initially, Paul Allen and Bill Gates had set the goal of one computer in every office and home. It was a bold idea and many people thought we would be crazy to think it was possible. It's amazing to think about how far computing has gone by, and we can all be proud of the part played by Microsoft in this revolution.
Under Satya's leadership, Microsoft is better positioned than ever to lead these developments. We have the resources to solve tough problems. We are committed to every aspect of modern computing and have the deepest commitment to research in the industry. In my role as Satya's technical advisor, I am impressed by the vision and talent I see. The result is evident in products such as Cortana, Skype Translator and HoloLens – and these are just a few of the many innovations on their way.
In the coming years, Microsoft will be able to reach even more people and organizations around the world. The technology is still far away for many people, because it is complex or expensive, or simply because they do not have access. So I hope you'll think about what you can do to make technology accessible to everyone, connect people to each other, and make use of personal computers available everywhere.
We have done a lot together during our first 40 years and have countless businesses and people to make the most of their potential. But what matters most now is what we will do next. Thank you for your help in making Microsoft a fantastic company today and for the next few decades.
