BitTorrent has announced that it will launch a Live TV network with news on July 18 at duration at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Cleveland, Ohio.
The news comes a week after it was revealed companys to hire a former CNN producer to head up the new BitTorrent News streaming channel. Harrison Bohrman will lead a team of six, which includes three former Al Jazeera reporters and producers.
BitTorrent is best known as BitTorrent, a peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing protocol, but seems to try to break its ties with illegal file sharing and piracy, trying to find its place like media company.
In May, the company launched BitTorrent Live, a multi-channel video streaming application for Apple TV, and then released it to OS X.
The company stated that it will follow support for more platforms and plans to be the application that will "play" BitTorrent News.
According to a company statement, BitTorrent News will be "destined to be an independent voice for news, in real time."
The network will start the presentation in the media with 12 hours of live coverage during each day of the Republican conference, with commentary on the main developments, analysis of visitors, etc., all in real time.
