CentOS 7.4 1708 The next big version is coming

CentOS 7.4 1708: Red Hat released it Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4 on 1th August 2017. Of course, as I mentioned, since then I've been waiting (and probably all friends of the distro) for the upcoming CentOS 'Release Point', which means that the major version of a distribution (in this case CentOS Linux 7) is updated to version 4 by by Red Hat.

As I mentioned in Red Hat's new release announcement, CentOS fans will have to wait a month or so for it of distribution. CentOS 7.4 1708

Actually according to a post on the CentOS blog, the upcoming release CentOS Linux 7 (1708) is already in the works of developers. To mention that the Red Hat source code, updated the distribution in about 700 packages.

So the upcoming release of CentOS 7.4 1708 should have the corresponding ones . The process that the CentOS Project follows for each new release is as follows:

When there is a new version of the RHEL 7 source code, the public version of the source code goes up on the CentOS git server (git.centos.org). They then use a published set of tools to create RPM sources from the git source code. This is how the development of the CentOS Linux update will begin. A program called mock is used to create binary RPM bundles from SRPMs.

Information:

The CentOS operating system is developed by an open source community. Typically, CentOS users are companies and individuals who do not need strong commercial support for their operating system.
CentOS is a 100% compatible rebuild of Red Hat Linux, fully compliant with Red Hat distribution requirements. CentOS is for those who need the stability of an enterprise-class operating system without the cost of certification and support.

According to published on 4 August 2017, by that date they had completed 574 packages of the approximately 700 SRPM required for the update. Let's say it will be the largest number of updated packages to release after the official announcement.

Upon completion, a new repo will appear for the necessary beta tests. The address that will appear in the repository and the installation media will be: mirror.centos.org. It will be in a folder called 7.4.1708.
