Checker is back. An auto parts company from Massachusetts has secured the rights to use the classic trademark in news cars which he will build.
So far, all we have is the sketches for two prototypes, but it is clear that Checker's classic look returns to the current streets.
But the Checker Marathon (the classic New York taxi) will not be exactly the same.
According to the photos published by TheVerge, the first model of the limousine will have six doors, for 12 passengers.
It is based on the design of the original Aerobus Checker model from the 60's and 70's but it looks quite odd. It could be used with a guide or by very large families.
Both models will have a steel chassis and body, retaining the bulletproof look and feel of the original models.
The new cars will be built by Checker only to order (the original Michigan company discontinued partreatment vehicles in the 80s).
The first prototypes will be released on the road the following year, and full production is scheduled for 2018.
According to The Daily News, the company plans to build approximately 100 tracks from each model. Vehicles will be sold from 50.000 up to 70.000 dollars.
