Elected in the European Parliament, by Pirates Party of Sweden, Amelia Andersdotter and Christian Engström, as well as those elected to the national parliament by Pirates Party of Iceland, Birgitta Jónsdóttir, Jón Óór Ólafsson and Helgi Hrafn Gunnarsson, jointly proposed American whistleblowers Chelsea Manning and Edward Snowden, for Nobel Peace Prize.
The Nobel Peace Prize is accompanied by a 900.000 prize and is awarded annually by 1901 on 10 December in Oslo to those who have "does most or the best job for fraternity among nations to abolish or reduce regular armies". Candidates may also be nominated by members of national parliaments.
The Pirates Party of Greece welcomes the proposal. Whistleblowers Manning and Snowden, although special cases, give the example that you have to fight for democracy and this has nothing to do with whether you are on the left, the center or the right.
It is with emotion that we in turn recommend Chelsea Manning and Edward Snowden, for the Nobel Peace Prize and we support this movement of the MEPs and MPs of the Pirate parties.
