Chrome enable Tracking Protection today

Google today enabled 1% of all Chrome users a feature called Tracking Protection. The new feature was officially announced in mid-December 2023, and it will be the first phase of Google's plan to stop supporting third-party cookies in Chrome.

Tracking Protection is one of those fancy terms that Google loves to pick up for its changes. But although the simple function of disabling third-party cookies has an impact on tracking, it is far from exclusive functions tracking offered by other browsers.

If you're using Google Chrome, and want to see if you're in the 1% who already have Tracking Protection turned on browsing, update Chrome and look for the Tracking Protection icon on browser addresses.

If it's there when you open web pages (not internal pages), then you've been selected by Google.

A click on it opens a basic interface that reveals that Tracking Protection is enabled and gives you the disable it for that site.

Basically all Chrome users can turn on Tracking Protection, even if Google hasn't opted them in.

Make sure Chrome is up to date.
Open the internal address chrome://flags/#tracking-protection-3pcd.
Set the displayed flag (Tracking Protection for 3PCD) to Enabled.
and restart Google Chrome.

Tracking Protection will be enabled in your browser and it is enabled for any website you open with Chrome.
