The command-line hotkeys in Windows 8 and Windows 7

hotkeysWhat are line hotkeys ή prompt? Η command line (command prompt) in Windows 8 and Windows 7 is the environment where you can run commands for console tools and services by typing text. The UI, the command line is very simple and has no buttons or commands in graphics format. But it provides a number of useful hоtkeys. Today, we will share with you this list of commands with the hоtkeys available in Windows 8 and Windows 7. They should also work in Windows Vista or Windows XP.

Upper arrow  ή F5 – Returns to the previous command. The command line stores the of commands you type in a session, until you exit and close the window. Each time you press the up arrow or the F5 key, the command line cycles through all the previous commands you've typed, one by one, in reverse order.

Down arrow  – Shows you a cycle through the history of commands in the order in which they are registered in a session. The line s is completely opposite to the up arrow key.

The up and down arrow keys store the position of a command in the command history until a new command is executed. If you execute a command you took with the darts, the newly executed command should be added at the end of the command history and its previous position will be lost from the history.

F7 - Displays your order history as a list. You can navigate through this list using the Up / Down Arrow keys, and then press Enter to execute the selected command again:

ESC - Clears the text you entered.

Tab - Automatically fills in the file or folder / directory name. For example, if you type c: \ prog in the command prompt window, and then press Tab, it should be replaced with "c: \ Program Files". Similarly, if you are in C: \ and typing, CD C: \ Win and pressing Tab, it will automatically become C: \ Windows. This is a very useful key and can be customized by the registry. You can also configure separate keys for file completion and directory completion.

F1 - Displays the previously typed command (s) one character at a time. Press the up arrow to display the command you gave earlier, and then press the Escape key to clear the command prompt. Now press the F1 key several times: each time you press the F1 key, a character from the command will appear on the screen.

F2 - Repeats the previous command from history, from beginning to a specified character. For example, you have the command "dir c: ” in your history. You can find it from your history using the up arrow.

Then, if you press the Esc key to clear the keypad and press the F2 key, it will ask you to give the character to be copied:

To copy only the part of the command until "dir", enter the space key as a character. This will cause you to take all the characters counted from the left and right into the command line, ie from the "dir c:" character and the "blank" character to the "dir"

F3 - Repeats the previous typed command. It works like the up arrow key, but repeats only one command.

F4 - Deletes the text to the right from the cursor position to the specified character. In the following example, the cursor is in the "d" character, so when you specify the "g" character, you will delete the "dir i" characters:

Alt + F7 - Clears the command history. All your expiration history will be deleted.

F8 - Moves backwards through the command history, but only shows commands that start with a specified character. You can use this option to filter your story. For example, if you type cd in the input bar, then press F8, then you will only get those commands starting with "cd" from your history. For each subsequent command you should provide F8.

F9 - Allows you to execute a specific command from the command history. This requires you to enter the order number, which you can get from the history list (F7):

Ctrl + C - Cancels the execution of a running command or a bat file.

Enter - Pastes a selected / copied text. You can highlight text that is anywhere on the command line screen by simply clicking the Command Line icon in the title bar and then selecting Edit -> Highlight. After clicking Highlight, you must select text with the left mouse button or using Shift + left / right arrow.

Insertion – Switch between to enter the replace function at the current cursor position. In replace mode, the text you type will replace the text that follows it.

Home - The cursor moves to the beginning of the command

End - The cursor moves to the end of the command

Alt + Space - Displays the Command Prompt menu window. This menu contains very useful functions under the Edit menu, Defaults, and Properties. The command prompt shortcuts work fine, so you can press Alt + Space and then K (in Greek) to close the command prompt window instead of typing Exit.
