Η Microsoft released the source today code of MS-DOS 1.1 and 2.0 as well as its source code Microsoft Word for Windows 1.1a. With the help of the Computer History Museum, Microsoft's codes will be available to the public today.
MS-DOS was renamed from the version of 86-DOS, written by Tim Paterson of Seattle Computer Products and first released in August 1980. Microsoft hired Paterson in May 1981, and purchased 86-DOS 1.10 for $75.000 in July. Soon after it was renamed MS-DOS. Microsoft released the first DOS-based version of Microsoft Word 1983 in 1983. In 1989, Word for Windows managed, within four years, to generate more than half income of the global market applications processingof text.
