Microsoft's AI digital assistant, Cortana, is now available on Skype, according to today's company announcement.
Cortana on Skype can either chat with you, as you would any friend, or invite to talks to manage various tasks such as planning events, finding nearby restaurants or sharing movie reviews from IMDB. Cortana for Skype will begin rolling out today to iOS and Android users in the United States, according to a post on the company's blog. The company has not announced anything, as to when they will receive the new one feature, other countries, but I imagine right after the trial period on USA.
Microsoft Digital Assistant will appear as a contact in every Skype user contact list. It will work just like it does on desktops, in one-on-one discussions (AI): Ask for things like directions or weather forecast and Cortana will give you answers via optical cards.
In addition to booking restaurants, Cortana on Skype will be able to provide suggested answers such as "I'm fine" when someone asks "How are you?" or with "Create a reminder" when you are planning something with your friends. Reminders will then be sent to other devices that you have authorized to use the Cortana digital assistant.
The Cortina at Skype or Whatsapp will not work on calls voice or video calls.
During the release of the Skype digital assistant, we will see many features that resemble Facebook Messenger's intelligent helper M and will work almost the same way that Google's assistant works in the less-known Allo chat application. In any case, the AI digital assistant will hear the words used in your conversation to predict the needs of a user or group of users.
