The Great Idea seeking funding through the Kickstarter it is called: Cubesat Ambipolar Thruster (CAT)
The vision of its creators is to be able to explore deep space at an extremely low cost. THE technology Cubesat Ambipolar Thruster (CAT), a new helicopter propulsion system powered by helium and water. CAT can propel small spaceships such as CubeSats around and beyond the Earth. New propulsion technologies could cost billionsmillions dollars and need at least a decade for their development. CAT is one of the cheapest and fastest developing deep space systems ever built.
Why CAT?
Space exploration has always been expensive, many of the existing spacecraft are the size of a truck and cost over $1 billion. CAT will be tested on a cubesat, a small satellite about the size of a loaf of bread. CubeSats cost 1.000 to 10.000 times less to develop than a conventional satellite. The benefits of Project CAT are many as it will enable exciting scientific and commercial opportunities. By contributing to the CAT funding effort, you can help build future spacecraft. Spacecraft will be able to make amazing discoveries that will help us understand the environment around Earth, the solar system, and not only since new technology promises taxithrough deep space.
Cat will offer High-Tech for Meteorology and Mapping, but also could be rapidly deployed in sphere- covering orbits around the Earth for an inexpensive global access to thenetwork, or even for the first interplanetary Internet.
