In the presence of the Minister of Public Order and Protection of the Citizen Mr. Vasilis Kikilia and the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs Andreas Loverdos, 16 July 2014 was held today, the presentation of the "Cyberkid" application by the Head of the Electronic Crime Division , Brigadier Manolis Sfakianakis.
The presentation was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Mr. Alexandros Dermentzopoulos and the General Secretary of Public Order, Mr. Athanasios Andreoulakos. Also, the Chief of Staff of the Hellenic Police, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Tsaknakis.
During the event, the Director of the Electronic Crime Prosecution, Brigadier Manolis Sfakianakis, presented the "Cyberkid" application, created with the help of specialized officers of the Directorate for the Prosecution of Electronic Crime.
It is an application for Smartphones, called Cyberkid, which is innovative and global. This application enables children to communicate instantly and in real time in case of danger or threat with officers of the Electronic Crime Prosecutor's Office through the use of a Cyber Alert (Touchscreen Call) process, but also by sending e-mail message. Officers will manage the threat or threat that comes from the Internet through modern processes and through a CYBER ALERT, a modern CIVIL ALERT, which will have its headquarters in the Electronic Crime Prosecution Division.
The Minister of Public Order and Citizen Protection Mr. Vasilis Kikilias highlighted the novelty of this action, which is being put into operation today: "We start a very important action with our teammate the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs. The protection of minors is our first priority. Children's safety on the street, at home, at school, on the internet is non-negotiable. Brigadier General Manolis Sfakianakis, referring to the targets set by the Cybercrime Division for the exploitation of this application, said: "We expect this application to be downloaded by 500.000 mobile phone users within the next two months, and 3.500.000 users will be able to reach one year of operation. Achieving this goal will allow the Greek Police to have the most famous application (application) mobile phone worldwide. Collaboration of the Ministries of Public Order and Citizen Protection and Education and Religious Affairs to establish Safe Internet Navigation as an ongoing information action in all schools
At the initiative of the Ministry of Public Order and Citizens Protection through the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate and with the cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, Safe Internet Navigation is established as a continuous informative action in schools.
In this context, with the start of the new school year, Specialized Task Force officers holding postgraduate and doctorate degrees once a week will be connected via the Internet at the same time with 50 schools in the territory where they will be presented in a way that is understandable and accessible to pupils the risks of the Internet, the protection from them and their safe handling. The choice of schools will be made by a special team of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs depending on the class and the region they wish to attend.
Referring to the need to implement this initiative, Mr. Kikilias said:Our goal is, using the same technology we are called upon to protect, to reach each school, every corner of the country, and to inform students about the delinquency of the offense. We say YES to the internet, but we want all students to know what constitutes sexual harassment, what cyber bullying is and how to manage and protect their sensitive personal material, from their photos to codesecurity».
For his part, the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Andreas Loverdos, stressed the following:The Ministry of Education has put the 450 schools into the pilot project and will also provide 12.000 schools today with the service of this truly commendable action envisioned and executed by Mr. Sfakianakis. That is, the protection against cybercrime, sexual education, the sport through which we can deal with obesity, which reigns, childhood obesity, visual arts. It is noted that Cyberkid is an initiative of the Ministry of Public Order and Citizen Protection and the Hellenic Police Headquarters, implemented by the Electronic Crime Prosecutor's Office in the framework of information and awareness raising for children aged up to 18 years, and their parents about the security in Internet.
