Remotec Andros F5: On Thursday night, the Dallas Police Department (DPD) used a C4 bomb disposal robot to kill 25-year-old Micah Johnson. In a police statement issued Saturday, the DPD named the bot used in this unprecedented operation. It was the Remotec Andros F5 model.
Although no longer sold by Remotec, the Remotec Andros F5 appears to be an earlier bomb disposal model. According to a pamphlet of product as of 2012, the new F6B can carry up to 60 kg with its boom fully extended.
So the half pound of C4 he carried on the death of the extremist Micah Johnson was not even close to the maximum load he could carry.
Remotec calls the F6 “the largest and most reliable system για drones πρώτης αντίδρασης.”
But a few days after the dramatic events in Dallas, the debate has moved on whether the latest police act by using a robot to neutralize the suspect will be the future. In her statement, DPD says the robot was used as a "last resort" to save police and civilian lives. Other police services, such as NYPD, praised DPD for the unprecedented use of a bomb bomb robot, according to The New York Daily News.
Legal experts, however, raise concerns about the use of unmanned vehicles with lethal action by the police, comparing the use of robots with drones used in the war.
The discussion will probably continue in the coming days, weeks and months, and Remotec Andros F5 will be the focus.
