Dell has become the first, major, personal computer manufacturer to support the A4WP wireless charging model (Alliance for Wireless Power), also known as Rezence.
The alliance has set up a wireless device charging standard that uses the near-field magnetic resonance technology called Rezence. The Rezence standard is able to charge multiple devices simultaneously without having to place the device in a dock.
Along with Dell's announcement, A4WP has also announced a new high-power specification that will allow 20 devices to be charged at 50 watts by "shooting" devices such as ultrabooks and laptops.
As stated by Mrfaceof A4WP on Engadget, the ideal perspective would be that a laptop that charges via the Rezence standard could also be used to charge other, smaller devices, such as a smartphone, simply by placing it on top of the laptop.
However, such products are not yet on the market and what is set is to present the first notebook models that can use the Rezence wireless charging model within the year.
On A4WP today support over 80 companies, including Broadcom, Intel, Qualcomm, Samsung, SEMCO, Fujitsu, Haier, HTC, LG, Panasonic and SanDisk. The Rezence standard will be presented during Mobile World Congress, which will be held during February 24-27, in Barcelona.
