Windows user accounts are password protected and if you forget it the only way out is to ask your administrator to reset it.
However, if you forget the administrator password, the reset of the password is not easy unless you have some other administrator account (or a recovery USB). This may happen more in corporate environments where there is more than one administrator, and less so on a home computer.
Below we will see one of the ways to reset Windows 10/11 password with one USB stick.
Windows offers a password recovery feature with a USB stick. It's the easiest way to find a forgotten password, but it only works with local accounts. If you have an account associated with a Microsoft account, you will need to reset your password from the Microsoft site.
Make sure you have one unit USB that you will not use for anything else and connect it to your computer.
Log in to your account and enter in the menu search or in the settings search: Create a password reset disk or in Greek create a password reset disk.
In the wizard that will open, select Next.
Select USB again Next.
Now, enter your current password and click Next.
When the wizard is finished, select Next and Finish.
When you're done, remove the USB from the computer and hold it somewhere so you don't lose it. Be aware that you do not need to re-create a recovery disc, even if you change your password.
To reset, you need to click Reset Password on the login screen. The Password Reset Wizard will start immediately. Insert the USB and click the Next button. Select USB again Next.
Once you enter your password a screen will open where you can create a new password and save it.
That's it.
Caution:
Windows 10 before version 1803
For pre-release versions of Windows 10 1803, local account passwords could not be reset because there are no security questions. You can reset your device to choose a new password, however, this option will permanently delete your data, programs, and settings.
If you have backed up the files you, you will be able to restore the deleted files.
