How to Disable the Charms Bar and Switcher in Windows 8

From the day of circulation Windows 8 we came face to face with the new “Modern UI”, also known as the metro. The Start menu has been replaced with its new feature launcher that separates the Windows UX into two different worlds – the world of Metro apps and the classic Desktop. To switch between these two UIs, Windows 8 came with two panels at the top left and top right of the screen called respectively and Charms Bar.

The Charms Bar provides quick access to the following Charms: Search, Share, Start Screen, Devices and Settings:

Switcher provides an easy way to go from the Modern metro apps screen to your job. Like the Charms Bar, it automatically appears on the screen as soon as you move your mouse to the top left corner of the screen (and the top right for the Charms Bar).

Switcher and the Charms Bar are parts of the Windows 8 Edge UI.

If you are one of those who do not like these features because you use a computer with a mouse and you do not have a touchscreen, or because you like it and find the Charms Bar and Switcher a little annoying, you can remove it. Below we will mention two simple tweaks that will allow you to change the behavior of the Edge UI. After applying these tweaks, the Edge UI tables will not appear when you move your mouse over the left or right corner. This does not mean that Switcher and Charms Bar features will be completely disabled. They will still be able to show you how to use them (if you need them) with shortcuts on your keyboard.

"Win + Tab" will display the Switcher, while "Win + C" will display the Charms Bar.

How to Disable Charms Bar and Switcher in Windows 8

Open Registry Editor (click Win + R, type regedit.exe in the Run dialog box and press Enter). Immediately follow the route

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell

Create a new key with the EdgeUI.
Select the EdgeUI key in the left pane of the window and create two new DWORD values in the right pane of the Registry Editor window.
DisableTLcorner - means "Disable top-left corner". Set the value to 1, and Switcher will not appear when you move your mouse to the upper left corner of your screen. Note that it will still appear if you move the mouse pointer to the lower left corner and then move it up along the left side of the screen.
DisableCharmsHint - Set the value to 1 to turn off the Charms Bar.

Both settings will prevent Edge UI panels from appearing randomly. The tweaks work instantly - you do not need to restart.

If all of the above appear mountain, you can download the registry files ready. With a double click on them, they will do the work for you.

In the zip there are two files to disable and two to turn on the features if you regret it and you want it back.
