EIT: The event, organized by GSRT and the ESF, will present new funding opportunities for AEIs, research centers and businesses.
The General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) and the National Documentation Center (ESF) are organizing an Information Day for the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and the new funding opportunities for AEIs, research centers and businesses. The event will take place on Friday 18 March (09.30-14.30) in Athens (L. Zervas Amphitheater, National Research Foundation, Vas. Konstantinos 48).
The European Institute of Innovation & Technology, funded by the EU's Horizon 2,35 program, is the first European initiative to complete the Knowledge Triangle (education, research, entrepreneurship) through the Knowledge Innovation Clusters (KICs).
The EIT is developing actions to:
- the training of researchers in entrepreneurship (postgraduate, doctoral studies and programs business training),
- the development of innovative products, services and business models,
- the creation and development of businesses (start-up incubation, technology transfer, connection research and production, awards, etc.).
The EIT function started with 2008 and, to date, the following Knowledge and Innovation Communities are functioning:
- KIC for Information and Communication Technologies (EIT Digital), with the participation of organizations from Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, France and the United Kingdom
- KIC on climate change mitigation and climate change (Climate-KIC), involving organizations from Denmark, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Spain and Italy
- KIC for Sustainable Energy (KIC InnoEnergy), involving organizations from Spain, France, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Portugal, the Netherlands and Belgium
- KIC for Healthy Living and Active Aging (EIT Health), with the participation of organizations from Sweden, Spain, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands (joint-center of the Netherlands-Belgium)
- KIC for raw materials (EIT Raw Materials), with the participation of organizations from Finland, Sweden, Italy, Belgium, France and Poland.
The current call for proposals, with a deadline of July 14, 2016, concerns the creation of two new KICs in the areas:
- EIT-Food for the future (EIT Food: Food4Future – Sustainable Supply Chain from Resources to Consumers): is about ensuring a sustainable global food value chain, resilient to climate change, and
- EIT-Manufacturing: Added-value Manufacturing: it is about strengthening and increasing the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry in Europe.
During the event, Matthea Fammels, EIT's Head of Unit "Policy and Communications" (acting), and Antonis Fysekides, EIT's KIC Project Officer, will present the calls and funding opportunities for Greek organizations. Subsequently, representatives of the EIT's 5 Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) will present the individual actions of the KICs. Participants will also be informed of additional funding tools.

It is noted that the National Documentation Center acts as the National Contact Point for the EU Horizon 2020 program for research and innovation (www.ekt.gr/horizon2020) and for a number of its individual programs, supporting the Greek academic, research and business community for its participation. Covering all stages of research projects, from the preparation of the proposal to the implementation and exploitation of research results, the ESF services include: Information and Consulting Services, Support Office Operation, Development and Distribution of Information Material, Organization of Events and Seminars, Finding partners to form joint ventures and joint submission of proposals, recording national participation and issuing statistical data and performance indicators.
