Elon Musk is changing the Twitter logo

Replaces it with an X

Say goodbye to the Twitter blue bird. Elon Musk announced the new logo which will be an X.

The iconic blue bird has been Twitter's corporate logo for years, but with Elon Musk trying to further distance the company from its old image, it's now coming to change its sign. The new logo will be an X.

Musk a few hours ago he tweeted on Twitter's logo change, stating, "And soon we'll say goodbye to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds."

It appears the billionaire is also giving users a chance to design the new logo, noting that "If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we'll release it to the world tomorrow."

Musk later published an image of a flashing X and confirmed that the logo will change, which he says should have been done a long time ago.

For the record today's Twitter blue bird arrived in its original form in 2010. It was named Larry, or Larry T. Bird, after the basketball legend. Twitter co-founder Biz Stone is from Boston and a huge fan of the Boston Celtics. The idea was that the noises a bird makes are comparable to tweets: fast and short.

Larry was revamped in 2012 when Martin Grasser redesigned the logo to a simpler and cleaner one, while the light blue color was changed to a darker shade that looks more attractive on white websites. Inspired by a hummingbird, Grasser overlaid 15 different circles over his design to create the image.

Twitter is under a lot of pressure right now. Firing the majority of the company's staff and relaxing Musk's policy has spooked many advertisers. The company recently responded to a Bloomberg article stressing that 99,99% of what people see on Twitter is "healthy."

It also faces the threat of rival Threads, which has so far managed to attract 100 million users in just five days.

Update: He said it and he did it! The blue bird is gone and replaced by the X.
