Windows subscriptions are coming for everyone

Rumors of a subscription version of Windows for consumers are circulating For several years. It seems to be her next logical step in its effort to have continuous income from the hers.

Microsoft has already moved Office to a subscription platform (it's part of Microsoft 365), while continuing to release the same application in ISO with a one-time payment.

These two versions of Office are not the same. The subscription edition gets new features and improvements that the perpetual license edition of Office doesn't.

But they found it in Deskmodder new items showing an upcoming subscription version of Windows. They discovered new entries in the slmgr.ini file that mention the new version.

The change was discovered in the latest Canary build of Windows 11, and a parallel check of the same file in Windows 23 build 2H11 confirmed that the entries are new.

The new entries were found in the German version of Windows 11 released through the Canary channel. Additions to the slmgr.ini file show the Subscription Version, Subscription Type, and Subscription Status.

Microsoft could release a subscription version of Windows next year. It could also use the rumored release of Windows 12 in 2025 to add the subscription option for consumers.

We will see the death of Windows 10 and millions with Windows that cannot be upgraded to Windows 11. One with Windows running in the cloud, but it could work with Windows 10 or even Linux.
