ESET: One in three people using the internet is a childhowever, for small browsers the internet is still an environment full of significant risks.
Especially as they spend enough time on social media, children may have to deal with malware and phishing, personal data theft and online bullying.
Since it is practically impossible for a parent to ban or restrict the use of social media in their children, it can at least educate them to be careful. THE ESET has compiled four basic guidelines for parents who are concerned about their children's exposure to social media and are looking for effective ways of educating and supervising them.
Let's look at ESET's instructions:
Correct bases for responsible use of the Internet. The initial explorations that children make in Internet should be done under the supervision of parents, with tips and guidance that help them develop critical thinking and make better use of the internet. It is helpful for children to know from an early age that they need to think before pressing any link or button and that they need to be wary of people they do not know.
Dialogue and good example. Responsible use can be taught by the right example of parents: we watch how we behave online, we remember that any online activity leaves traces, that anything shared or published can potentially stay there forever, and how important it is to protect our data with proper passwords. Cultivating dialogue is also very important, because it gives children the opportunity to openly discuss their concerns with parents.
Making her an ally technology. Technology itself offers a range of tools that can significantly shield child protection.
