Facebook announced today that it will no longer serve Flash video but will use the newest and safer platform of HTML5.
At the end of January toy 20125, YouTube announced that it would replace the viewing of HTML5 videos by default for all users. The move was pioneering, and the users accepted it with joy. Immediately after more and more services started to follow Google's example.
During the summer, Facebook hired Alex Stamos as CSO (Chief Security Officer). Shortly after hiring Stamos, he publicly asked Adobe to announce an EoL (End of Life) timeline for Flash.
The software Adobe's for those who don't know are constantly being targeted hackers, due to vulnerabilities constantly being discovered in its code.
According to Facebook's Daniel Baulig, aside from the well-known security reasons, the HTML5 platform has some advantages. It allows developer teams to change the code on sites without having to recompile (recompile) the player's SWF file again and again after each change.
So HTML5 videos are available from today on News Feed, στις Σελίδες, και στο πρόγραμμα αναπαρtreatmentFacebook videos embedded on third-party websites.
