The Facebook ξεκίνησε μια αυτόνομη εφαρμογή του Messenger για Windows and Macs. This means you can now use Messenger on your desktop computer without having to open a browser.
At the F8 conference in 2019, Facebook announced that it had developed a Messenger application for desktops. A year later, and with the growing demand for coronavirus messaging applications, the social network has now launched a Messenger Desktop application for Windows and MacOS.
The announcement was made by Stan Chudnovsky, Messenger VP, said that Facebook is launching a PC application so that "you can video chat on your PC and stay connected with friends and family around the world."
The new Messenger Desktop app for Windows and MacOS includes everything included in the version that runs in browsers. That is, it includes group video calls (for up to eight people), notifications for new messages, the support for Dark Mode, GIFs, and synchronized chat on mobile and desktop.

It seems that Facebook has accelerated the standalone version of Messenger Desktops due to increased demand on teleconferencing and communication applications. That is why the application came with the basic features that the corresponding web has through browsers and without many extra goodies. After all, Messenger is not the only one available choice for those who wish to keep in touch with their loved ones.
