It sounds totally paranoid, but covering your camera with tape might not be such a bad idea. Mark Zuckerberg but FBI Director James Comey already does.
In fact, James Comey has defended his earlier statements today that he says he uses a tape to cover his devices.
“Do you still have tape over them? cameras at your house;" a researcher asked at the Center for Strategic and International Studies conference, FBI Director James Comey.
Comey replied:
“Heck yeah, heck yeah. And it's something I get teased about … but I think people lock their cars […] they lock their doors at night. I have an alarm system. If you have an alarm system you should use it. It's not crazy that the Director of the FBI cares about personal better safety"
Comey went further, explaining that it was common practice for the FBI and every government office to cover cameras with common materials such as the film.
"You can go to any government office, we all have small ones Movies on the camera at the top of the screen. They all have a little lid that closes.”
The debate was centered around the growing concern that the Internet of Things was equally convenient but also a nightmare for security.
Comey believes most Americans take for granted that their computer can protect them from malicious users, which most of us know is far from reality.
