France first to delete tweets

Since last July, the French authorities have rapidly increased their requests to delete messages, while they had submitted only three content deletion requests in the first quarter of 2013. From July to the end of December 2013, the French authorities addressed 306 times to the administrators of this social networking site in order to request for 146 accounts to withdraw content.

In a report published by Twitter, he said he satisfied more than one third (35%) of the requests from the French authorities, by deleting 133 tweets. The French court had ordered the management of the company in July to provide information on some accounts containing phrases deemed racist and anti-Semitic. These requests were submitted following the initiative of human rights organizations. Requests for deletion of content submitted by French administrations account for 87% of the total number of requests at international level. Altogether, deletion requests have multiplied across the world between the first and second trimesters of 2013, as multiplied by 60 to 365. Government requests for information on Twitter account holders have also increased.

"In the last 24 months, we have recorded an increase of 66% in requests for information for accounts, requests originating from more than 45 countries and involving more than 6.400 accounts around the world" explained the address of this social networking site. "The majority of government requests for the accounts are always made by the US," whose government made 59% of the requests, according to Twitter. Σε διεθνές επίπεδο ο συνολικός αριθμός αιτημάτων αυξήθηκε στα 1.410 και ήταν αυξημένος κατά 849 αιτήματα σε σύγκριση με τα πρώτα στατιστικά στοιχεία που είχαν δημοσιευθεί στις αρχές του 2012 από το Twitter.
