Free Wi-Fi in 4.000 locations throughout Greece - What applies

In Ceyla, the invitation for free wireless access (Wi-Fi) on the Internet

Wi-Fi

Soon all citizens will have free internet access in 4.000 outdoor and / or closed public spaces such as squares, pedestrian walkways, playgrounds, municipal libraries, museums, etc. In particular, the choice of points (wi-fi hotspots) refers to sites from 302 Municipalities of the country (in total 325) indicated by themselves, 100 archaeological venues and museums, and 200 port and marina locations.

Today, the invitation for the "National Network of Wireless Internet Access Points Wi-Fi Hotspots" was published in "Diavgeia", which invites the potential operators of the project to submit the relevant actions in order for the specific project to be financed by the NSRF.

The inclusion of the program in the NSRF, which lasted for many months - at least six - as it was not easy to find money for the 13 regions, was made under the direction of the new Deputy Development Minister, Odysseas Konstantinopoulos.

The deputy minister responsible for the NSRF had continuous meetings in the last few days with officials and finally a solution was found so that the program would cover all 13 regions of the entire country and not just the 8, for which there was no problem anyway. For its positive development and unblocking Prime Minister Antonis Samaras himself was immediately informed, who has shown particular interest.

The project budget is at 25 million euro instead of 15 originally presented.

Note that some municipalities, including the Municipality of Athens, do not participate in the program either because they have already implemented their own program to provide wireless internet access or because they are implementing it now.

How will citizens enter the Internet?

Citizens will be able to connect for a period of 30 minutes, provided they are within 20 meters of the indoor access point and 100 meters outside.

Each point will be able to serve approximately 40 to 50 users at the same time who will be able to:

-Only have access to the internet but with restrictions for inappropriate content, streaming files, etc., as well as a limitation to the maximum speed of 1 to 1,5 Mbps.
-To have access to of and of the city
-Access to services from the municipality.

Wi-Fi and in public transport

End, Wi-fi will have the buses and trunks in the coming months, all metro stations and the electric railway (currently have seven) and tram stops.

What the prime minister said last year
