FreeCAD is an open source CAD application code whose main objective is engineering development and industrial design. This is helped by the modular design that allows a lot of customization to be used in other applications as well.
FreeCAD is written in Python, and if you know Python, you can extend it and automate several of your everyday tasks.
The open source application can import and export many common formats files for 3D objects. Its modular architecture makes it very easy to extension of its basic functionality with various plug-ins.
