Η Google Genomics and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard are working together to make the software analysiss DNA (Broad DNA analysis software) a service available at Google Cloud.
In a blog post, Google says she is working with Broad to bring genes science to a next level that will help scientists discover treatments for several diseases.
The teams seek to create new tools and develop new ideas for the promotion of biomedical research, combining their expertise in bioinformatics, analysis and computational power.
It seems that the teams have not lost time:
Our first common product is the Broad Institute GATK on the Google Cloud Platform, a management service now available as a first release to a limited number of users. The GATK, ή Genome Analysis Toolkit, είναι ένα πρότυπο εργαλείο για τη μετατροπή γονιδιακών data in reliable information for genetic variations. By running GATK as a service through Google Genomics, scientists can be more confident that they are processing their data with best practices, without worrying about managing IT infrastructure. Google provides the infrastructure and Broad provides reliable analysis methods.
According to TNW, this collaboration is generally promising to help and facilitate progress towards disease prevention by better storage, analysis and management of biomedical research data.
Google says:
We share many deep values - the passion to be the best at what we do, the belief in the power of technology to improve lives, and focus on the ultimate beneficiaries of our work, and a history of innovation that drives our industries.
The Broad Institute has collected the genotype sequence in 1.400.000 biological samples and has developed common methods of data processing that encourage discovery and refer to reputable scientific journals.
Google Genomics helps the scientific community organize and give access worldwide to gene information through the same technologies and services it uses for search and maps.
