Google glass: Read the products by looking at their barcode

An innovative technology allows users of "smart" glasses Glass to collect useful information about a product simply by looking at its barcode. The method is called barcode scanning and was presented by the international association GS1 at the Mobile World Congress, which took place in Barcelona, ​​Spain. It has been developed in collaboration with Open Mobile (OMA) and Icare, the Swiss Research Institute.

As announced, when a barcode on product packaging is scanned using Google Glass, the consumer gets more information about the product, such as nutrients and recipes, which can then be customized to personal preferences, offer special offers , show other consumer feedback, and even send information to social networking sites.

"As consumer behavior is constantly changing and the information is continuous, the next generation of barcode scanning will be the primary means for consumers to be able to have in the data. At the same time, it is a way for the media to communicate, so that they can manage to involve users in various informational and promotional actions" said Malcolm Bowden, president of GS1.
