Google lost a legal patent battle, may have to pay a 92 million

Google

The lost a legal battle against the big patent company SimpleAir, which has sued all major technology companies, including Apple, Microsoft, Motorola and Samsung.

SimpleAir, the well-known patent giant, is now pursuing 125 εκατομμύρια δολάρια (€92.200.000 ).  Η Google έχει βρεθεί ένοχη για παραβίαση διπλωμάτων ευρεσιτεχνίας για ορισμένα σημεία της υπηρεσίας μηνυμάτων.

Apple had settled a similar case for the same patent in 2012. The case as expected, is judged by the Eastern District of Texas, where courts are particularly friendly with patent companies, such as SimpleAir.

Patent companies in America are companies that buy third-party patents, and then if someone uses them, they are claiming their rights.

While most of the time is not the cheapest solution for companies to come to an agreement, Google hoped to win this battle for the sake of all the other technology companies sued by SimpleAir.

The present case is an example of why Google wants to change patent laws, arguing that it is not right to sue a company that simply buys patents and sues others without producing anything.

Google will now have to go to a second lawsuit against SimpleAir to determine the amount of compensation.
