A malicious app that purports to download wallpapers, videos and music to Appliances running on Android, it was spotted on Google Play, and has been distributed for over a year.
This application is one SMS Trojan who asks her permission to start sending text and multimedia messages, to download files. Before installation, it informs the user that there may be charges.
However, nothing showed how the application worked. Nathan Collier from Malwarebytes, who tested the Thai Fun Content application (package name is "com.FREE_APPS_435.android"), he says that charges continue on a regular basis as the user has actually subscribed to a high-billable service. So the victims of malware pay 0.37 dollars every day.
Although the amount may seem small multiply it x 1.000 and the scammers will earn 370 per day. They do not exist data for the number of app installations. But Google had it malware for more than a year, via Google Play. So the chances of the number of victims exceeding 1.000 are very high.
Collier reported that the malicious application had her latest update on 20 August 2013 and claims that the same date was added to Google Play. At 13 November 2014, the malicious app was still active on Google Play.
Google seems to have finally removed the app just today. Of course, the fact that it was "served" by Google Play for a year shows that the company's automated security checks are not effective.
