The original of a smartphone that has the ability to create three-dimensional maps of the user's environment was presented by Google. As we published yesterday, the new smartphone comes under the code name Project Tango.
The device's sensors enable it to perform more than 250.000 three-dimensional measurements per second and make real-time updates regarding its position and orientation.
Ειδικότερα, το τηλέφωνο (5 ιντσών με Android) διαθέτει ειδικά παραμετροποιημένο hardware and software designed to track/detect its movement in three dimensions while creating a three-dimensional map of the environment. The collected data is combined into a single XNUMXD model of the surrounding area.
“How would you like to be able to record the dimensions of your home just by walking around with your phone before you go shopping for furniture? What if directions to a new destination weren't limited to the address? What would it be like to never get lost in a new building again? What would it be like if the visually impaired could navigate unaided in unfamiliar indoor environments? What if you could search for a product and see exactly which shelf it's on in a department store?” Google asks consumers in its announcement, going even further and talking about possibilities which also extend into the realm of entertainment, such as "hide and seek" with favorite game characters or battles between players who control armies of miniatures to control areas in a house.
The company is looking for professional developers, "with όνειρα να φτιάξουν κάτι παραπάνω από μία εφαρμογή για οθόνες αφής».
"These devices were built with the unique ability to "sense" three-dimensional movement and geometry. We want partners who will push this technology forward and create great user experiences on top of it platformGoogle notes.
The company has 200 development kits, which it expects to have distributed to interested developers by March 14.
