Reuters: Google wins deal to provide cloud services to Elon Musk's SpaceX, launching a series of satellites Starlink for the supply Internet high speed.
SpaceX will build ground stations at the centers data of Google that will connect to the Starlink satellites, enabling fast and secure internet services through the Google Cloud, Google said.
This service is expected to be available in the second half of 2021.
The deal comes at a time when demand for cloud computing services has grown, with players such as Microsoft Corp and Amazon.com Inc. dominating the market. Cloud companies have also taken advantage of the telecommunications sector, due to the growing demand for 5G connectivity.
Google's cloud computing accounts for about 7% of its total revenue since the last earnings report.
Last October, Microsoft won a similar deal with SpaceX to connect the Azure cloud computing platform to Starlink.
The private company SpaceX, known for its reusable rockets, increases production of satellites for Starlink, a growing fleet of hundreds of satellites with internet radiation which Musk hopes will generate enough revenue to help fund SpaceX's interplanetary goals.
