An illegal "mini casino" was located last night (08.04.2014) on Syggrou Avenue, in the area of ​​Neos Kosmos, Attica, as part of a coordinated operation, which was implemented with the cooperation of the Financial Police & Cybercrime Prosecution Service, of the Security Sub-Directorate Athens and the Crime Prevention and Suppression Team (OPKE) of the Attica Security Directorate.

During the operation, a total of sixty (60) people, both domestic and foreign, were arrested in the process, while a number of illegal play machines of various types and associated equipment were seized.

Among those arrested are the temporary manager of the store, a 48-year-old local, a 21-year-old local who worked as a "tsiliadoros", two female waitresses (a 30-year-old local and a 23-year-old Albanian national), a 26-year-old national as a "porter" and extra five (55) people (39 locals and 16 foreigners) who participated as players in the banned games. The legal representative and owner of the store (76-year-old local), was absent during the inspection and is wanted.

In addition, other (42) patrons were found in the "casino" premises, who did not participate in the conduct of the lucky games and were released, after their judicial review s.

As noted in the audit, the 'mini casino' was disguised as a healthcare shop offering Internet services.

The audit also revealed violations of tax and labor legislation. In particular, the work of an uninsured person was established, the Special Recording of Re-Employed Personnel (ΕΒΚΝΠ) did not appear and the use of an unrecognized and approved tax mechanism was seized.

During the survey carried out at the shop floor, which operated on three levels (ground floor, semi-basement and loft), inter alia, were found and confiscated:

  • 56 different types of play machines,
  • 11 specially designed tables for Black Jack, Poker & Roulette,
  • plenty of chips and decks and 8 suitcases with brands of different colors and values,
  • the amount of 7.795 euros
  • a multitude of documents with handwritten notes,
  • banknote checking machine,
  • central PC (server),
  • portable wireless with intercom system headphones and
  • two locked metal safes.

It is noted that a special monitoring and surveillance system was installed and operated in the store, which consisted of thirty-three (33) cameras in total and a recording machine, through which an image of the premises and the incoming - outgoing people was recorded, in order to avoid - it is difficult for controls by law enforcement authorities.

Those arrested are being taken to the Criminal Prosecutor's Office of Athens today. The seized money will be sent to the Deposit and Loan Fund, while the The equipment will be handed over to the Directorate of Customs Procedures (formerly O.D.D.Y.) for safekeeping.

The relevant reports will be submitted to the competent services (IKA, SEA, DOU) for the imposition of the prescribed administrative penalties, fines, etc., in accordance with the applicable legislation.

It is recalled that with the 4002 / 2011 Law, which regulates the "games market" and came into force on 22 August 2011, there is a sentence of at least ten years imprisonment for anyone who runs gambling without a license. Where gaming is technically provided, imprisonment of at least three years and a fine of 100.000 to 200.000 per game machine is provided. Finally, anyone joining a lucky game, organized without a license, is punished with imprisonment of up to three months and a fine from 5.000 to 20.000 euro.
