A team hackers have managed to exploit a vulnerability in Microsoft Word and to attack the government and educational institutions in Taiwan.
Microsoft had recently issued a bulletin security for a serious vulnerability in its Word software and soon after released a "fix-it" patch to protect its customers. However, as with most updates, many did not update their software and systems and thus were vulnerable to attacks by hackers.
This also happened in Taiwan where hackers carried out attacks against the Taiwanese government and the "Taidoor" educational institutions.
Hackers were able to exploit a vulnerability in Microsoft Word that had not been updated on the systems they hit. Hackers sent emails with malicious attachments and catchy headlines like national polls, tricking employees that they opened to see the content. This is how they were able to steal sensitive government data.
This particular attack comes to remind once again how important updates are software and functional.
