HGST has just announced the world's first hard drive with 10TB capacity. The new Ultrastar Archive Ha10 SMR HDD is said to be setting new standards worldwide.
Just like the Ultrastar Archive He8, Ha10 uses helium to help rotate the platters by achieving less friction and vibration than conventional discs we all know.
The disk can use more and finer platters, thereby achieving increased capacity.
Ha10, referred to as an idea in September last year, uses SMR recording.
HGST reports that the product is the result of the combination of two complementary technologies: The second generation ΗGST technology with the proven HelioSeal platform and magnetic recording (SMR).
So the company manages to deliver unparalleled storage density and energy savings, without compromising on reliability and performance devices.
