Max Schrems, is a law student from Austria and oldhis acquaintance Facebook which has occasionally created several problems. The proactive student practicing in his future profession has filed a collective lawsuit against the social network, which may include up to 1 billion users.
This is possible because he issued an invitation to all Facebook users except those residing in Canada and the United States to participate. The number will be really big which is a pretty big number considering that only 20% of Facebook's monthly users come from these two countries, as reported by Mashable.
Schrems filed his complaint in an Austrian court, alleging that Facebook has engaged in a series of privacy violations, including helping the US National Security Agency to collection information of its users through the preletterof PRISM. The young student is asking for compensation of €500 for each user who signs the complaint.
He also claims that Facebook is violating European privacy laws by monitoring users from websites outside the social network via "like" buttons.
If the name Schrems is known on Facebook, as this is not the first lawsuit. The student had again sued Facebook last year. He then blames the social network of participants in the PRISM surveillance program and the lawsuit was filed before the Data Protection Commissioner of Ireland.
The young man is calling on all adult Facebook users outside the United States and Canada to join him in his fight against the largest social network world. If you want to “sign up” for the Schrems lawsuit you can do it here.
