Huawei Brings a New Digital Age to Europe

Huawei is working with European partners to develop an "ecosystem" that will accelerate the pace of digitization, said William Xu, Huawei Chief Strategy Marketing Officer, during the 3th Huawei's European Innovation Day, held on Monday 15 June 2015, in Munich (Germany).Huawei

The event, which was attended by representatives of telecommunications operators, think tanks, government agencies and media, was a platform for discussion about the development of the industry ecosystem in Europe but also about specific issues such as Industry 4.0, the cities, wearable technology and the Internet of Things (IoT).

"Huawei can help Europe accelerate digitization in equipment, infrastructure and applications, and we work closely with customers, collaborators and research institutes to that end" said Mr. Xu.

With its leading know-how in scientific research and industrial production, Europe is able to develop "smart" equipment and lead the world to industrial digitization. European Organizations, such as the «Mobile and wireless communications Enablers for 2020 Information Society» (METIS) and «5G Infrastructure Public Private Partnership» (5G PPP), will continue to lead the development of next generation communication standards.

"Huawei's strategy for Industry 4.0 can be summed up in strategy 1-2-1" said Mr. Xu, and clarified how “The first '1' refers to a single unified IoT platform. '2' refers to two access methods - wired and wireless - via switches, Wi-Fi or eLTE. The last '1' refers to LiteOS, Huawei's IoT operating system."

Since 2006, Huawei has established 19 innovation centers jointly with European operators such as Deutsche Telekom, British Telecom, and , to research future networks and new services as well as to improve the user experience. In addition, Huawei is working with automakers such as Audi to promote applications for the Internet of Vehicles. In addition, it has signed an Industry 4.0 Memorandum of Understanding with Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, an applied research organization based in Germany, and is working with SAP to launch IoT and Industry 4.0 solutions in the transportation, oil and gas, and construction industries.

At the event, Mr. Xu also announced the launch of a strategic partnership with Vodafone, the largest international provider based in Europe, to explore the global enterprise ICT market. Huawei has been operating in Europe for 15 years, upgrading the region's industrial ecosystem and contributing to its innovative efforts. The company has 18 Research & Development Centers in 8 European countries, dealing with wireless networks, microwaves, microchips, engineering, mathematics, design and more. Huawei also works closely with more than 700 partners and 120 academic institutions in Europe.

Since its founding in 1987, Huawei has been investing in annual at least 10% of its annual turnover in innovation, research and development. Last year, the company spent $6,6 billion on research and development, an amount that represents 14% of annual sales and an annual increase of about 30%, compared to the previous year. Over the past ten years, Huawei has invested more than $30 billion in research and development.
