Huawei announced the launch of its distribution center at Piraeus Container Terminal

HuaweiThe official launch of the pilot operation of the Huawei distribution center at the Piraeus Container Terminal was celebrated today, in an event held at the port of Piraeus. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Kostis Hatzidakis, Minister of Development and Competitiveness, His Excellency Ms. Du Qiwen, Ambassador of the People's Republic of in Greece, Captain Fu Cheng Qiu, its CEO Piraeus Container Terminal and Mr. Jeffrey Zhou, Managing Director Huawei Technologies SA

The launching of the distribution center is the fulfillment of Huawei's commitment in May of 2013 to the Greek Government, in the framework of the official visit of Prime Minister Antonis Samaras to China. With the ability to receive more than 4 million TEUs per year, Piraeus Container Terminal (PES) is a reliable and important partner for Huawei's strategic goals. The importance of this cooperation for both sides, as well as for Greece, was highlighted by all those attending the event.

The Minister of Development and Competitiveness Mr. Kostis Hatzidakis exhow the HUAWEI station strengthens the position of Piraeus, but also of our country on the international transport map, as the company's high-tech products will be distributed to European markets through Greece. He also emphasized that this new investment is a vote of confidence for the country from a dynamic multinational company.

The Ambassador of China, Mr. Du Qiwen, characterized the pilot operation of Huawei's distribution center in SEP as "an event of great importance for theupcoming businesses, the future of Piraeus and the country, which will contribute to progress and long-term development".

Jeffrey Zhou, Managing Director of Huawei Technologies, said: "We launched this pilot project recently, and Huawei's first container ship arrived in Greece in November, marking the start of this new partnership with our partner SEP. We believe that our presence in the country will contribute to the Greek Economy. With the launch of this program, we will confirm the potential for future expansion "

Captain Fu Chen Qiu, CEO of PCT, said: "We particularly appreciate the importance of the presence of Greek Government Ministers here today at Piraeus Container Terminal, which states both personal and government support for the undertaking of such an important company as the Huawei ".

Huawei Technologies is a leading global supplier of information and communications technology (ICT) solutions, serving more than a third of the world's population. In 2012, the company's turnover amounted to approximately $35,4 billion, 66% of which came from sales outside China. Piraeus Container Terminal, a subsidiary of the Chinese multinational shipping company Cosco, will manage the international distribution of Huawei products, spare parts and other telecommunications items arriving from China to Europe. More specifically, the products to be distributed include Huawei's entire product portfolio, such as fixed-line networks, mobile phones, optical and broadband , telecommunication solutions services for small and medium enterprises as well as consumer goods.
