New ATMs will allow the public to exchange Bitcoin with cash or cash deposit for the purchase of Bitcoin add-ons.
Robocoin announced that February will be the first ATMs in the United States to be able to deal with the Bitcoin digital currency.
The systems will be installed in Seattle and Austin, Texas, and will be similar to standard ATMs. Their main difference, according to the Reuters, θα είναι ότι θα φέρουν ενσωματωμένο έναν σαρωτή που θα είναι σε θέση να «διαβάζει» έγγραφα που θα πιστοποιούν την ID card of the user, such as a driver's license or passport. The new ATMs will allow the public to exchange Bitcoins for cash or deposit cash to buy additional Bitcoins.
Bitcoin made its appearance in 2008 and transactions took place through a global network of computers. The "coin" is not backed by anyone company ή government and therefore does not have any capital backing. However, its issuance is tightly controlled, mimicking the control exercised by real central banks. Today, its value has been significantly upgraded, since last September one Bitcoin was worth 150 dollars, while today its value has risen to 636 dollars. With Bitcoin, internet users can purchase products and services.
Robocoin, based in Las Vegas, installed the first Bitcoin ATM in Vancouver, Canada, just last autumn. Following were the facilities in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and the company plans to expand its facilities to more cities in Canada and the United States, Asia and Europe.
