Ubuntu 13.10 Touch is a new OS system from Canonical. However, installing it on a phone is not as easy as installing it on a computer. That's exactly why the Canonical published a guide to install it Ubuntu 13.10 Touch.
First of all, we should mention that the operating system can not be used on any phone. Canonical restricts its use to Appliances Nexus 4. Of course, the device should be unlocked or otherwise have root access.
Open a terminal and type the following commands
- sudo add-apt-repository ppa:phablet-team/tools
- sudo apt-get update
- sudo apt-get install phablet-tools android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
Put your phone in a developer mode from Settins /About phone / Build number and press 7 times. A short message will tell you that the phone is ready.
If it is not already enabled, enable USB debugging from the path Settings> Developer options> USB debugging.
Finally, before setting up, you should make a backup on your Android. Open a terminal and type the following command:
- adb backup -apk -shared -all
If you later want to reinstall Android, open a terminal and run the command:
- adb restore backup.ab
Finally, open a terminal and type the command:
- phablet-flash ubuntu-system –no-backup
The command should run without any problems and the device will finally start with Ubuntu Touch installed.
Do not close the terminal or interrupt the process.
