Censorship Sign

Online censorship in Greece: Annoying pages

Censorship SignΗ to the government closes in 2013. This is the only way to interpret the fact that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested and succeeded in imposing temporary injunctions to silence the websites eu2014.gr, registered since 2005, which referred to actions and omissions of the government for the presidency of the EU, with a critical eye.

The only phenomenon is the cynical admission of the public law attorney during the Temporary Order process that they do not bother using the domain name, but the criticism that is made through it, allegedly stating: "If we sold televisions we would not mind" .

According to the .gr Domain Names (https://grweb.ics.forth.gr/tomcat_docs/1564-B-2013.pdf), there are specific reasons why the state or another to request the interruption of a page, or the imposition of precautionary measures on it. By careful reading of the text, nowhere does the term "annoyance" or "criticism" arise. On the contrary, as far as we know, freedom of speech is protected by the Constitution of this country. If anything has changed, we would like to be informed!

The Pirates Party of Greece stresses that these arbitrariness of the government and the responsible authorities should not and should not pass. Justice must, of course, act for the interest and the rights of all citizens, according to the laws, and not under the orders of the government and the prosecution authorities.
We believe that he has to reverse the decision in the January 7 trial if the unacceptable, for a democratic country, what is unacceptable, were spoken by the public representative.

For her sake, Justice did not agree to interrupt the functioning of the "embarrassing" website until the end of the presidency, as requested by the state representative, but only until the hearing of the injunction.

We also await her decision with great interest after the relevant hearing on Wednesday, December 11.
