Kaspersky Lab: 1 on 8 users does not believe that digital threats are a real risk

According research held by B2B International and Kaspersky Lab, 13% of Internet users do not believe that digital threats are a real risk. In particular, users feel that the threat posed by threats is an exaggeration of companies operating in the field of Internet security. However, this indifference leaves users completely unprotected against the dangers that daily threaten their data and online activity.Kaspersky Lab Kaspersky Lab Kaspersky Lab Kaspersky Lab Kaspersky Lab Kaspersky Lab Kaspersky Lab Kaspersky Lab Kaspersky Lab

According to the statistics, even those who admit that digital threats are real, are not always sure that they need protection against them. Specifically, only 22% of respondents believe they could be targeted by digital criminals. However, in reality, fraudsters are potentially interested in every user's devices. Even if the holder a ς δεν αποθηκεύει πολύτιμα δεδομένα σε αυτή και δεν πραγματοποιεί online οικονομικές συναλλαγές, οι ψηφιακοί εγκληματίες μπορούν να χρησιμοποιήσουν οποιονδήποτε υπολογιστή, smartphone ή tablet. Για παράδειγμα, μπορούν να τις εντάξουν σε ένα κακόβουλο δίκτυο (botnet) και να τις χρησιμοποιήσουν για τη διασπορά μηνυμάτων spam, DDoS ή την phishing links through instant messaging applications and email.

Almost one-third (32%) of users are not worried that online accounts are being violated or completely ignored by this risk. Unfortunately, this does not only apply to personal pages on social networking sites, but also to online bank accounts, which could reveal personal financial data to a digital killer. However, many people feel that the chances of coping with financial losses from digital attacks are extremely small. 42% of respondents are unaware or unaware of the possibility of financial loss. One thing that these users do not realize is that these losses are not always due to direct theft of money from their bank accounts. "Malware" infections can lead - among other things - to unforeseen costs, including IT costs, software reinstallation, or the temporary unavailability of a device. Overall, at 21%, respondents whose devices were infected by malware have suffered financial losses.

According to the results of the survey, 20% of respondents are not aware that using public Wi-Fi networks hides risks, because the data sent through them can be intercepted by digital criminals. A slightly higher percentage of users (27%) are aware of this threat but do not think they need to worry about it. At the same time, however, 55% of respondents use public Wi-Fi networks. In fact, 12% enter their login information on websites and 6% make online payments using these networks.

"Simply put, those who believe they are safe because digital criminals just will not deal with them do not understand the nature of online threats at all. Typically, hackers do not focus on specific targets, but try to "harvest" as many victims as possible. For this reason, it is dangerous to use the Internet without a security solution, "said Elena Kharchenko, Head of Consumer Product Management, Kaspersky Lab.
