Experts from Kaspersky Lab's Worldwide Research and Analysis Group, as well as an invited representative from Europol, presented presentations to business executives and SMEs from 12 countries.
Gary McEwen, Strategic Analyst at Europol's European Digital Crime Center (EC3), said: “The μεταξύ των διωκτικών αρχών, του ιδιωτικού τομέα και της ακαδημαϊκής κοινότητας παίζει ουσιαστικό ρόλο στην αποτελεσματική καταπολέμηση του ψηφιακού εγκλήματος. Μαζί, εργαζόμαστε για τον εντοπισμό και την εξάλειψη των κακόβουλων υποδομών και των επιθέσεων sinkholing, ενώ βοηθάμε και στην απ of the systems of victims of "infections".

In his presentation, Gary McEwen spoke about the trends of digital crime, including: the reduction of "entry barriers" to digital crime, the increasing aggression of digital crime through the spread of ransomware programs (especially ransomware and cryptoware programs supposedly that they come from police authorities) and the extension of the use of Remote Access Tools for attacks.

"Today, digital security is not an issue that is only considered by IT professionals. It's something that concerns us all - home users and their families, small businesses and large organizations. The exchange of information and the building of a security culture are very important parameters and that is what we seek, by organizing such events. We also often stress the need to secure the operations of a business, whether it is the work of an accountant in a small company or the operation of the water supply system of an entire city. "From a ransomware program to a targeted attack, digital security risks need to be addressed with the right solutions, policies and employee training."

The analysis of 2015's digital threatening landscape experts shows that 35% of European users on average encountered security incidents related to local networks and removable media, while 20% encountered threats related with the Internet. Speaking about the threats faced by organizations, experts reported statistics from the Global Corporate IT Security Risks survey conducted by 2015 by B2B International and Kaspersky Lab.

According to the survey, 48% of businesses in Europe said they encountered viruses, worms, spyware and other malicious programs in the last 12 months, 18% said they had detected an intrusion into their network while 12% encountered cases of digital espionage 8% has fallen victim to a targeted attack.

The same survey showed that with regard to internal threats, organizations encountered vulnerabilities in the software they used (29% of respondents) and staff leakage - accidental (21%) or deliberate (11%). Portable devices that store enterprise information are an additional risk of data leakage. Experts discussed these threats and the solutions that can help to deal with them.
Also discussed was the security of virtual servers and data storage systems, as the volume of data held in data centers is constantly increasing. It also highlighted the benefits of a holistic approach to digital security, which should integrate information technologies, processes and education.

According to Gartner, a typical company is investing 90% of its security budget for prevention and just 10% in tracking and responding. However, even with these rates, there is an increasing demand for "intelligent services" by organizations, which can safeguard the safety of organizations of different sizes and industries. With 18 years of experience, Kaspersky Lab has acquired special know-how about digital threats, translating its information into real protection for all its customers.

Tips from Kaspersky Lab specialists

The actions that businesses must take today:

• Focusing on staff training on digital security issues
• Implement mature, multi-level security solutions for terminals, with additional preventative tools
• Valid and frequent implementation of patches for vulnerabilities and process automation
• Beware of what is mobile
• Implementation of encryption solutions for communication and sensitive data
• Protection of all infrastructure elements (e.g. portals, email, solutions incl)

The actions to be taken by businesses tomorrow:

• Creating and developing an integrated security strategy - from anticipating potential risks to preventing continued threats, with the support of efficient tracking and efficient response technologies
• Digital security is too complex and serious to be mixed with more general IT solutions, so it is advisable to create a dedicated Security Operations Center

Actions for individual Internet users

• Investing in a robust security solution for all devices
• Investigate and use the extra options that accompany a security solution, such as encryption and automatic backups.
• Training on key issues of digital security and sharing knowledge with family members
• Adopt encrypted communications
• Possible review of online habits and information exchanged. Once the information is "uploaded" to the Internet, it stays there forever and can be used against individuals or businesses.
