Safety concerns limit the use of online payment services

According research of Lab and B2B International, 44% of European Internet users feel vulnerable during online purchases or online transactions. At the same time, at 38%, users said they would use electronic payment systems more often if they felt protected from digital fraud. Taking into account these behaviors, there seems to be a lack of confidence in the security measures taken by the providers of electronic payments.

The survey shows that 62% of Europeans are afraid of financial scams on the Internet, while highlighting many cases where users do not feel comfortable. For example, 34% of Europeans who make online payments feel that even the official mobile applications of financial companies need more protection measures to offer real security. Additionally, 44% reported interrupting one electronic payment in the middle, as he doubted the security of the transaction.

The level of protection against digital fraud is an important criterion for users when choosing an online store or a financial service. At 61%, European respondents said they would prefer companies offering additional security measures to protect their financial data. In addition, 71% expects banks, electronic payment systems and online stores to protect consumers' computers and mobile devices from financial scams.

At the same time, many users know that they need to apply their own security measures beyond the measures offered by payment service providers. While 22% of users fully assume responsibility for the security of financial transactions in banks and 14% believe that users themselves are solely responsible for their protection, the majority (59%) of respondents believe that the protection of financial should be the responsibility of both. This demonstrates that users are willing to accept new tools from financial institutions to help them cope with online fraud as they also perceive their own share of responsibility.

“Many users still feel safer paying with cash or using their bank card in brick-and-mortar stores, rather than shopping online from their computer or mobile device. This reluctance is hindering the growth of the e-commerce industry. To encourage the active use of electronic payment services, banks, online shops and electronic payment systems are required to assure users that they are safe from digital criminals. One solution for payment service providers is to offer additional layers of protection against financial fraud attempts, which are specifically designed to secure online or mobile banking and payments. The presence of this additional protection, which focuses on transactions, immediately reassures users, giving them the confidence that their money will be », δήλωσε ο Ross Hogan, Global Head, Fraud Division of Kaspersky Lab.

In order to boost consumer confidence in online systems and on mobile payment platforms, companies can leverage the platform Kaspersky Fraud Prevention. Additionally, the solution incorporates tools that can be used to create secure mobile applications based on Kaspersky Lab's advanced technologies and unique information services on the latest digital threats and how to deal with them.
