Knoppix is a special version of Linux that runs without installation, directly from a DVD. It is based on the Debian firmware, and is compatible with GNOME, KDE, LXDE, and Openbox Desktop Environments.
Of course the DVD will have to be booted. Once you stop running the system and removing the DVD, the computer will be back to its original state without any changes to the operating system.
The distribution is ideal for those who want to do a first try on the Linux site, but do not dare the installation process.
Knoppix is a complete Linux operating system with many applications and games installed. As mentioned above it runs from the DVD without the need for installation and without affecting the already installed operating system.
Includes full Greek support as well as spelling check. So it is ideal for those who want to try the Linux operating system but do not want or install it on their computer.
The distribution offers automatic hardware detection, support for multiple graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI, USB devices and other peripherals.
KNOPPIX can be used as a productive Linux desktop system, training CDs, rescue system, or a custom platform for commercial software product demonstrations.
As mentioned above it is not necessary to install it on a hard drive although it can be done quite easily. Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software that can be installed (over 8 GB for the DVD version).
