Knoppix is a special edition of Linux that runs without installation, directly from a DVD. It is based on the stable Debian, and is compatible with the Desktop Environments GNOME, KDE, LXDE, and open box.
Of course the DVD will have to be booted. Once you stop running the system and removing the DVD, the computer will be back to its original state without any changes to the operating system.
The distribution is ideal for those who want to do a first try on the Linux site, but do not dare the installation process.

KNOPPIX can be used as a productive Linux desktop system, training CDs, rescue system, or a customized platform for commercial demonstrations productof the software.
As mentioned above it is not necessary to install it on a hard drive although it can be done quite easily. Due to thecompressions on-the-fly, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software that can be installed (over 8 GB for the DVD version).
